IPSY - JUNE 2017

The JUNE 2017 ipsy Glam Bag was great! I had a nice spa experience for my face and my cheeks ought to be set for a while with 2 new products for my collection. Check out the 5 make up and skincare products items I received. Pictures and details below:

The Bag

·         This bag is very cute! Envelope shaped with a two tone canvas exterior featuring a smiling set of sexy red lips in an old school comic style. Interior is lined with a slick feeling black material. Finished with a cloud shaped branded bag closure, top zipper and piping around most of the bag, all in black.

NYX Professional Makeup
Whipped Lip & Cheek Soufflé

·         This product is delightful! I get so excited when something is a MATCH for me! As far as coloring and ease of adapting this into my existing routine, this is! Versatility too, playing well as both cheek and lip color.

·         One thing I’d like to note is that a little goes quite a long way… Which is great really! But I mean that for real, not a joke…the tiniest dot creates a flush of beautiful pink!

skyn ICELAND
Glacial Face Wash with White Willow Bark

·         In the tube, this facial wash has a marine tinged soapy scent. The soapy smell was strong during the washing as well, but the marine essence had noticeably dissipated.

·         This product left my face feeling stripped of moisture; I was compelled to quickly apply a face cream.

theBalm Cosmetics
Balm Springs Blush

·         The shade of this blush is a nice dusty rose. It wore well in a single try test, so I’ll probably keep it in my “recently used blush” pile and see if I reach for it again.

Hey Honey
Uncover DETOXIFYING MUD MASK

·         The scent of the mask during application is pleasant, there’s a subtle essential oil blend going on there, not sure which exactly… The mask is an army green shade and slicks on in a thin, semi-liquid paste…I probably should’ve used a brush to put it on, took a bit to get it out from under my fingernails.

·         Skins feels amazing after removing the mask.  Oddly, it didn’t rinse away as the packaging directed…I started by peeling it (which it did without pulling on my skin) but then I started to rub gently and it rolled up like making snakes with a piece of clay. Very efficient and saved water; the residual effect on my skin was a reduction in redness/inflammation, nice scent (My Beefcake actually noted it) and moisturized skin.

DOUCCE
Maxlash Volumizer Mascara

·         I am kind of picky about mascara. Well ok, I’m kind of picky about lots of things, I am downright PARTICULAR about mascara. It’s like my main thing you know? So testing went like this:

Eye #1 - With eyelash curling and a precise, light application, this mascara created long, but not very full lashes.

Eye #2 – Same as above, EXCEPT I tried to add volume to the length I saw on the first eye…but going heavier only cause the mascara to weigh down my lashes, losing the length and overall looking droopy.

IPSY - MAY 2017

ipsy's MAY 2017 Glam Bag was a treat indeed; from the sweet bag (HA! I am so punny!) to the sinful highlighter! Check out the 5 make up, skin or hair products I received.

Pictures and details below:

The Bag

·         The bag is summer themed adorableness! Teeny ice cream cones and popsicles are lined up all over the clear material. It’s easy to see whatever you’re looking for and another big PLUS – it’s also water resistant!  Features sturdy black zipper for bag closure.

VASANTI COSMETICS
Brighten Up! Enzymatic Face Rejuvenator - Exfoliating Cleanser

·         The exfoliating part of the cleanser was good; it feels like lots of small scrubbers in the product for a very thorough scrub. And it didn’t take much, maybe dime-sized dot to cover my face and chin (Remember to avoid your eyes!). My skin was smooth, however, it’s not super gentle, and left my face a bit red and blotchy.

·         The smell of this product in the tube is just a bit over the top for me…quite a strong floral note (Is that Jasmine?). Good news, it wasn’t as overpowering (Tolerable!) once I applied to my wet face.

Urban Decay
Afterglow in Sin

·         I am very happy with this one! As with a lot of Urban Decay products, the quality and lasting power of this powder highlighter are wonderful.

·         I can see the shade (Sin) becoming best make up buds with some of my usual favs.

Jelly Pong Pong
Supercharged Super Intense Eyeshadow Duo in Electric

·         The shimmery pink & brown neutrals are a great way to bring out blue eyes (like mine!) and the combo of colors means you can create a variety of different looks.

·         Another pro for this product is the cute compact which makes taking it along a breeze! The small turquoise & pretty purple compact is sturdy enough to live the purse life.  As you can see from the shots, Marilyn LOVES the built in mirror!

CAILYN Cosmetics
Pure Lust Extreme Matte Tint + Velvet in #32 Practicable

·         The pink/brown shade (Practicable) is a medium neutral tone… It’s on the dark side, compared to my usual lip products.

·         The lip tint was easy to apply, very smooth with good coverage. It was just a tad sticky at first but then dried with none of that.  Kiss Test - my first kiss test (after 2-ish minutes) was only partially dry. This left some lip smudges behind and when they dried, it was difficult to remove! Makeup remover was necessary. So it seems like the staying power is good, as once it dried fully, it didn’t kiss off…

Royal & Langnickel MODA™
Royal & Langnickel Precision Angled

·         This angled brush provided nice and smooth eye shadow application and improved the control of applying at an angle (such as around the eyelid crease), I do believe it’ll be joining my makeup brush ranks permanently!

Broken Wing

Hanging out with friends led to a chance convo regarding, what else, winged eyeliner. I love the look for some occasions but do not have a ready technique. I said this and my girl whipped out her liner pen and showed me the idea...but we were rushed and she had to hit the road! DAMN! So, we only had a quick shot at each eye and we got the basic outline set....

Come along with me, as I attempt to finish the winged eyeliner we started!! Queue the courageous adventure music, I think we're going to need it LOL!

CURLY HAIR ORIGINS

A small but telling moment in my life was when my curls came in and how that changed my life. for real.

So (as many are surprised to hear) during the first decade of my life, I actually had super straight and fine pale blonde hair. My dad liked my sister and my locks long and so my occasionally trimmed hair hit about the shoulder blades.

Anywho! Around ten years old (IDK LOL - 4th grade-ish), I was very into reading mysteries and the cover of my latest literary adventure featured the quick witted heroine and her short blonde bob hairstyle. I was blown away! She was out there, in the streets (back room of school library) making a difference solving school yard crimes of passion...and looked *kinda* like me...so we (clearly!) had A LOT in common...and I knew it was time for a change.

So early before school the next morning, I begged my mom to cut my hair into a short blonde bob. She was hesitant as my father had not had a chance to weigh in...but relented cutting my hair just a little longer into a medium length bob.

I truly thought that was the end of it, but oh no!

  1. My father was indeed AGHAST at the shortening
  2. My sister followed up my cut with one of her ownthe originally intended Short Bob
  3. BUT THE BIG ONE - When I washed my hair the following day, it wasn't straight anymore. It started acting WEIRD and uncontrollable!
5th grade Picture Day - Thank you to the Teacher who combed this together...5th grade was ground zero for not knowing how to do my hair!

I didn't fully grasp the concept back then but in the years since many hair professionals have weighed in on my Curly Mystery. Seems like the likely scenario is that my hair texture had changed during puberty and the new hair growth was coming in curly...but quite a bit of the length was my old straight hair which kept it stretched and straight. Once my mom relieved the new curly hair at the top of the straight growth at the bottom, the curls popped right up!
